East Lansing Police Department (ELPD) officers are looking for leads on a shooting that took place at the Speedway gas station near the intersection of Lake Lansing Road and Abbot Road yesterday.
According to a press release put out by the city, officers were dispatched to the site at about 5:13 p.m. When officers arrived, there was no sign of a suspect or a victim. Officers later learned that a victim was driven to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
An email forwarded to ELi that City Manager Robert Belleman sent to Mayor George Brookover and the city's Council of Neighborhood Presidents shows that it was initially believed that there was no victim.
"I mentioned, at the beginning of yesterday's CONP meeting, that there was a shooting at the Speedway on the corner of Lake Lansing Road and Abbot and that there was no victim," Belleman wrote in the email. "East Lansing Police Department subsequently learned the victim was driven to the hospital in a personal vehicle. The shooting remains under investigation."
An update provided by the city today said the victim has since left the hospital.
The press release said the shooting "does not appear to be random" and that ELPD does not believe there is a risk to the general public.
