Council hears presentation on income tax.
East Lansing is just over halfway through the 12-year period it is approved to collect an income tax from residents, but city officials are already looking down the road to when they will have to ask voters for a renewal on the tax. At Tuesday’s City Council meeting, council heard a presentation about how much the city has collected from the income tax, and how those funds have been spent. Read Luke’s story on the presentation here.

Albert El Fresco, the blocked off space downtown that contains games, seating, live music and more, will return for another season this summer, after council approved the necessary road closures at Tuesday’s meeting. The decision was not without discussion though, as some council members indicated they would like the space to be larger and one member questioned if the space was necessary at all. Tomorrow, Sunday, March 23 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. the Michigan Waterways Stewards, MSU’s Delta Sigma Phi fraternity and other partners will host a Red Cedar River clean up event.

Those interested can sign up online before the event to indicate if they would prefer to get out on the water to clean up the river, or if they would prefer to stay on land. Volunteers will meet near the Bogue Street Bridge on MSU's campus.
